Your French Legacy in a Book

French Legacy Book

Your French Family History preserved in an Heirloom-Quality Bound Book

Discover your French ancestry through original archival research, in a printed, bound book, one to four charts and a source booklet.

What You Receive

1.

A Heirloom-Quality Book

Your research is brought together in a custom-produced, sewn and bound book, combining your family history, narrative and translated records.
The book is A5 portrait format (14.8 x 21.0 cm or 5.8 x 8.3 inches), with 120 g/m² white sustainable paper and a durable linen-blue cover.

It is finished with selected endpapers, a golden-yellow bookmark ribbon, gold-finished corners and a tailband. The cover is stamped in gold color.
2.

Pedigree Charts

A pedigree chart is provided for each family line researched, showing the names, dates, places and relationships established through the research.
The chart is printed in A3 landscape format (29.7 × 42.0 cm / 11.7 × 16.5 inches) on 300 g/m² cream-colored sustainable paper.

Supplied as loose sheets, they can be kept with the book or framed and displayed separately as a visual record of your family line.
3.

Original Records

Record images are presented with their archive references, in a separate booklet, so you can see the original sources and trace each document back to the archive.
The booklet is bound as a paperback with a soft-touch finish on the cover.

Printed in A4 portrait format on sustainable 120 g/m² white paper, the interior pages feature black and white printing of original record images.

What Each Package Covers

This service covers:

  • Reconstructing one paternel family line of a chosen ancestor (male or female): their father, that father’s father, and so on, as far back as records and the research time allow.
  • Identifying and recording the spouse of each direct ancestor.
  • In the event of a break in the direct male line (for example, orphans or illegitimacy), we follow the next available line. For example, if a person has only a mother, we follow the father of that mother.

This diagram illustrates the scope of research for this option. Genealogy depends on historical record availability and family realities (unknown paternity, missing records, dead ends). Research is always adapted to what the archives reveal.

The Expertise Behind Our Research

Rigorous Archival Investigation

We track your lineage through verified French records using a methodical, source-first approach, across multiple sources. Parish registers, civil records, and archival collections are cross-checked to establish solid links and avoid guesswork.

Language as a Bridge

Original images of French records are provided, accompanied by their English translations. Names, dates, relationships and nuances are all preserved, providing a clear and accurate representation of each document.

Understanding of the Context

Each finding is rooted in its time and place. Local history, occupations and social context transform individual records into a coherent and meaningful narrative.

The research depth depends on the chosen ancestor’s birth date, the availability of historical records, and the research time included in your selected package.

For an ancestor born in the late 19th century or later, research may reach the mid-to-late 18th century.

If your ancestor was born before 1800, research may extend into the early 18th century or, in some cases, the late 17th century.

These are indicative possibilities, not guarantees. Some family lines can be traced further than others.

We need at least one concrete, verifiable piece of information to establish a starting point for the research. This might be a full name, a date, or a location documented in a source such as a census record, marriage certificate, or death certificate.

Partial information and spelling variations can sometimes be investigated.

Family documents, photographs, and details already known about your ancestors can also help guide the research.

After your order is confirmed, you will receive an intake questionnaire to collect this information. You can complete it online or return the PDF version by email.

Your project is activated, and the estimated research timeline begins, once we have received both your payment or deposit and your completed intake questionnaire.

Please return the questionnaire within 30 days of our request. If it is not returned within that period, or if essential information is incomplete or inaccurate, we may suspend the project in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

The estimated completion time depends on the package you select:

– One Family Line: 6–8 weeks.
– Two Family Lines: 6–10 weeks.
-Four Family Lines: 6–12 weeks.

Delivery times vary depending on current workload, archival research conditions, and printing and shipping times.
