We Break Through Your French Ancestry Brick Wall

When your Research hits a Dead End

Brick Wall Breaker is a targeted investigation desined to resolve a research impasse and/or to confirm the identity of your ancestor.

Finding your ancestor means recognizing patterns, deciphering barely legible names, and possibly understanding the history that explains where records ended up. That’s what years working through French archives teaches you, and what breaks through walls that has stopped you.

We highly recommend you contact us or book a consultation before ordering, so that we can confirm your research is feasible.

Why Searches Stall

Variant spellings & renamed individuals
Names in French records often appear with multiple spellings or aliases, making it challenging to confirm identities with confidence.
Poorly indexed French records
Many archives lack detailed indexing, requiring time-consuming searches to uncover relevant entries.
Conflicting or missing place names
Place names may be misspelled, changed over time, or missing entirely from records, complicating location-based research.
Scattered & untranslated Archives
Key documents are spread across various repositories and remain untranslated, posing barriers for non-French-speaking researchers.
Research Challenges Across Borders
Language barriers, unfamiliar archives, and scattered international records can make tracing immigrant or emigrant ancestors especially difficult.

What This Service Delivers

Each Brick Wall Breaker report is a focused genealogical investigation designed to confirm identity and French origins with maximum documentary evidence.

A Comprehensive Research Report

A 10 to 50 page digital report (PDF) that systematically presents verified facts, discovered records, and cross-referenced sources to break through your genealogical impasse.

What the Brick Wall Breaker covers

This service includes 5 hours of archival research.

  • The chosen person (male or female)
  • Identifying their parents

Research is conducted in French archival sources and delivered in English. It may exceptionally extend to Belgium and Luxembourg.

The service focuses on one research obstacle and the identity of a chosen starting person. It includes investigation of that person’s parents. Other close relatives may be identified when their records help cross-reference the evidence.
The research is limited to five hours. If the available evidence does not allow the question to be resolved conclusively, the report will explain the findings, the remaining uncertainties, and possible next steps.

No. Genealogical research depends on the availability, quality, and accessibility of historical records. Some obstacles cannot be resolved with the surviving evidence.
We apply professional research methods and cross-reference the available sources, but we cannot guarantee a particular result. The report will document the findings and explain any unresolved issues.

You do not need to have solved the research problem yourself. We do, however, need some concrete information to establish a starting point.

You can book a free 30-minute consultation before ordering. We can discuss the obstacle you have encountered, the evidence available, and whether the service appears suitable for your research goals.

We need at least one concrete, verifiable piece of information containing a name, date, or location that can help us identify the person or establish a starting point.
Useful material may include a census entry, birth or death record, marriage certificate, family document, photograph, or details of previous research. Tell us what you already know, what you have tried, and which question you want to resolve.
After your order is confirmed, you will receive an intake questionnaire to share this information and any supporting documents. You can complete it online or return the PDF version by email.

The estimated completion time is 2–6 weeks from project activation. Your project is activated when we have received both your payment or deposit and your completed intake questionnaire.

This is an estimate rather than a guaranteed deadline. Research complexity, archival availability, workload, and other circumstances may affect the actual completion time.

You will receive a detailed research report in PDF format by email, together with a separate digital annex containing images of the original records found.

The report presents the documented events in chronological order, the evidence supporting the findings, English transcriptions of the records, a pedigree chart, and any significant limitations or unresolved questions. It also includes recommendations for further research where appropriate.
